Social media marketing

As the ways we interact with one another continues to evolve, so too do our marketing methods. It has evolved from newspapers, to radio and magazines, then television was the key. As the turn of the century neared the internet became the key to success. As the internet evolves, we’ve experienced the rise of Social Media. Over the last 15-20 years the world has dramatically shifted. Through Social Media many of us share more of our lives online in face to face interactions. Why speak with the five or so people in your inner circle about last night’s gourmet meal, when you can instantly share pictures and comments to thousands (or millions)?

With so many posts involving food, children, pets and politics; the question facing most businesses is how can we grab consumer attention in a sea of competing products and messages? Whether you are brand new to the market or have been doing business for over 100 years, gaining (and keeping) consumer attention is essential for continued success and growth. While this seems like a painfully obvious axiom; judging consumer attention is not so simple.
Take for instance a small wholesale supplier of lightbulbs, everyone will need new lightbulbs eventually and you have many business clients who make regular purchases. Since the operation is small there are relatively few employees to manage the lightbulb store. Always busy trying to keep up with demand, the owner doesn’t realize when a few clients stop ordering regularly. She calls on these clients and discovers that they have switched to a national chain or another supplier who had reached out to them.

Social Media is one of the easiest ways to stay in front of clients. Social Media marketing maintains brand awareness with relatively minor effort. Sending out mailers is a great way to engage with clients and potential clients; however, it is very expensive and doesn’t automatically engage with a broader audience than the addressee. If you can get clients to like and share your posts, your audience for that post is everyone that client is connected to and everyone those connections share when they engage with your message. This not only fosters top of mind awareness; it also penetrates new markets by creating conversations with an interested audience.

Social Media marketing campaigns can be done for far less than the cost of a single mailer. The startling reality is that fully 85% of American businesses, both large and small, are either under-utilizing Social Media or not using it at all. Chances are your business is one of these, contact our marketing experts here at Crossbridge and learn how Social Media can bring you greater success.
